I am not one to label anything as a favorite typically… but there were a few extra special gifts this year that I received. One was a book called “To Heaven After the Storm”. I knew the book instantly as soon as I had opened it. I was excited to see it and disappointed that I had forgotten about it.
I actually blogged about this particular event and book not too long ago in the post titled, “To Heaven and Back“. To recap, this story is about a six year old girl that was involved in the 2011 Hurricanes. It was during this experience that she had probably the greatest tragedy of her life losing her mom, dad, grandma, grandpa and cousin in a single day. It was also on this day that she had an incredible experience that not many of us will ever know and be able to share with others.
In this book Ari relates her experience through drawings and transcribed interviews with her therapist. While I am sure there have been moments of sadness and there will continue to be a few more, Ari’s resilience and positive outlook on her life is incredible. The details of her story are breathtaking and a reminder to enjoy life and learn from it no matter what it offers.
I am so grateful to my dad who I forget is likely a regular visitor to my blog (after all, he taught me to love chocolate) had the thought to obtain this book for me. It was a lovely read and has become a treasured item that I have already shared with many others.
