When I saw the trick or treat truffles by Moonstruck I just knew that I needed to try them. Our previous experience with Moonstruck revealed a chocolate bar packed with flavor and a powerful experience. The opportunity to try 4 different truffles that were amazingly unique in appearance was too tempting to pass up.
I loved the different colors of the truffles. I loved the added color to bring out the designs. You could not get much more Halloween than these truffles shapes and colors. However, when it came to the tasting, we were a bit disappointed.

The Creme Brulee Werewolf truffle appeared to be covered in milk chocolate with a creme brulee filling. The chocolate tasted waxy and the filling that followed was sweet but almost sour as well. The texture of the truffle was smooth which you know I am very much a fan of.
I was excited for the Peanut Butter Ghost truffle… but it was not much better either. The white chocolate was not bad, but I did not care for the peanut butter they paired it with. The truffle overall was smooth in texture, but the peanut butter seemed a bit more sweet than peanut flavor.

The Popping Praline Mummy truffle was definitely a bit better. The truffle also had a waxy texture at the beginning and a big surprise after that. They were not kidding about the popping praline. The taste is pleasantly sweet and it really pops. Do they put that rock pop candy in it? No idea but it was definitely a different experience than I have ever had before.
The Blood Orange Vampire truffle was my husbands favorite. It was a good mix of chocolate and orange all the way through. Personally I would prefer a little bit more chocolate in the flavor balance here, but it was not bad.

Sorry Moonstruck. I definitely still plan on checking out more chocolate… and hopefully more truffles too.
Have a good weekend everyone! Can you believe the chocolate party is 2 weeks from today? Yikes!

Those look to die for…(Oh…no pun intended!) I am going to try to make some of these… Probably won’t be as great as these but you have inspired me!!
Okay, I am curious what you do with your chocolate, what you are making and how you make it… and I love the pun.
They are sure cute, sorry they didn’t pan out in the taste department though. When I lived down south there was this awesome chocolate factory I’d take the kids too once or twice a year (usually during the holidays), and their chocolate was soooo good that it ruined most other kinds for me. I still keep looking though.
That is okay, I thought about not posting it because I did not have everything good to say about them. But, I thought there is some good aspects about them and it is okay to post an honest opinion. But no worries, there is more yumminess to come!
thanks for sharing …I think they LOOK really cute even if they didn’t taste so good. =}
I know! I saw their Thanksgiving ones… and there were adorable too.

It is not so much Halloween that is freaking me out… it is the chocolate party 2 days later! Oh well, it will all be fun.
