Happy Food Day! Celebrate with Oxfam

Last week I posted about celebrating Food with OXFAM America and challenged you all to have a look at their tasty Pinterest page. Well, I could not resist the yumminess and made something for us to enjoy on world food day!

You should have seen my husband’s face when I told him what I was making. You should have seen his satisfied look when he was done eating it. This soup was everything we loved, chunky and full of flavor. To top it off, it was not your ordinary flavor either. Have you ever heard of a spice called garam masala? As far as I know it is used alot in Indian type cooking and I really have not been a huge fan until now. It was golden in this soup- literally.

Soup and bread

Okay, enough stalling. :) We made Sweet Potato Cauliflower Soup which I found on the OXFAM pinterest page, but the recipe itself originates from Manifest Vegan. Like my husband, don’t go running for the hills until you try this soup. Seriously, I think some vegan recipes have incredibly rich flavors.

Don’t forget dessert! When I was picking up some chocolate for a friend I also grabbed a Millcreek Cacao original bar for us to enjoy. It does not get much better than that.

How are you celebrating food day? If you did not know it was Food Day before reading this, what are you going to do now? :)

Enjoy!

I did not know it was food day. Happy Food day! We won’t be doing anything to celebrate, but I will have to prepare better next year. Maybe I’ll try out a new recipe on Food Day next year :)

You can also just discuss with your kids about food. Where it comes from, how to prevent food waste etc. Not much of a celebration, but definitely a worthy subject. Thanks for coming by!

  2. Yum, sweet potato and cauliflower soup sounds so good! I love cauliflower in soups:)

    • Chocolate Mom says:

I have not tried it before, but it was actually really good in this soup. Have you tried cauliflower in mashed potatoes? That is yum!

Wow! That looks great! Will have to try the recipe. We are celebrating World Food Day at dinner tonight. Have my kit ready and we made dinner using all ingredients from our farm and local farmer’s market.

I’ll have to ask my hubby what he’s got planned as my pregnant self is not too keen on cooking food these days. But eating it? Well, that’s a different story!

If you are pregnant, hopefully a treat is involved. Congratulations on your adventure and Happy Food Day!

  5. I had NO idea it was food day! Whatever it is, I will have to wrap it in bacon. Bacon is my friend, I wrap bacon IN bacon – drizzled with chocolate. :)

When I started this blog I had not heard of chocolate and bacon, but what a fantastic little combination! Thanks for coming by today!

Garam masala is an amazing spice blend. It has a vibrance about it that is so hard to match with other blends. The soup sounds amazingly good.

What did I do for Food Day? I made a good homemade chicken veggie soup… YUM! :)

I did not know it was Food Day! And I do love food. I had baked potato and a salad on the night menu but that just seems too simple now. Back to the recipe search!

Good luck on your recipe search. Another thing about the soup I made… easy and short ingredient list. Thanks for coming by today!

  8. Chocolate Dad says:

Most definitely one of the best soups I’ve had and I’ve never been a soup fan so that’s saying something.
