A couple of years ago, prior to changing my habits, I had a chocolate peanut butter cookie sandwich. My husband and I thought it was one sweet little combination and well, we finished the entire box that night at my friend’s house. We have since purchased her a replacement box, but ever since I have wanted to make my own delectable combination. I wanted to make the chocolate a little bit darker in taste and I wanted to make the peanut butter a little but richer.
After three attempts at making my dream chocolate peanut butter sandwich cookie, I decided that my baking skills could use some drastic improvement. I can follow a recipe and make yummy little adjustments. But coming up with something on my own is a dream and needs a little bit of work. Thanks to some inspiration from my new friends at Dessert Bites, I purchased a few books about baking. While the picture below may look yummy and delish, it was crusty, untasteful and an all-around unpleasant taste experience. I promise you guys, I will never tell you something tastes great, when in fact it does not.

By the way, I have no idea if untasteful is a word, perhaps I should have used tasteless. Oh well, too late now.
So how about you guys? Any tips for baking? Or creating recipes? By the way, if you have a chocolate recipe, I would love to share it with everyone. Let me know!

No tips here. My recipes are hit or miss! I love allrecipes.com though.
I have used their website as well. Thanks for coming by!
I think you are really brave for trying to make a recipe, and you should keep trying. I can take a recipe for dinner, and I don’t measure hardly anything, just dump in close to the right amount, but when it comes to baking I have to stick to the recipes.
I am the same way. I can manipulate, but baking- oh man.

Totally hard to believe that did not taste good. It looks great!
I’d love to find a better Chocolate Amaretto Cheesecake than the one we have. Ours looks good, but doesn’t taste as good as it looks (always a disappointment when that happens).
There are 2 things I do not care for- bad chocolate and bad cheesecake. I hope you find a better onw!
I love to create dessert recipes because it’s a great excuse to bake & eat! I recently created the perfect Chocolate Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookie, but I haven’t posted the recipe yet, so…use this recipe for the chocolate sandwich part: Chocolate Peppermint Sandwich Cookies and here’s how you make the yummy filling: 2 tablespoons butter (softened), 1/3 cup peanut butter, 1/4 cup milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla & 1/2 box of powdered sugar.
I will have to check it out. One issue might have been that I was trying to make the cookies with actual chocolate bars and not cocoa powder… I just think using the actual chocolate bar in treats in the past has tasted better. oh well, thanks for the tips!
I think untasteful SHOULD be a word! But at least they look yummy…right?!
They do look yummy. I hope no one thinks that because they look yummy all the chocolate I talk about is not yummy… I will tell you otherwise.

You can’t be good at everything! Sounds delicious, though.
LOL. People keep telling me that… and I keep not believing them.
Hi Gina: I’m definitely not a baker. I find you have to be too precise in your measurements! I love cooking and creating where I can just throw in this and that. But I sure to love to EAT good baking. Thank goodness for friends who bake, and for great restaurants (Like Barney Gargles in our neck of the woods) where the desserts are the headliners. And yes, many of them are chocolate.
Yes, thank heavens for those who are amazing at baking and such. I just tasted some amazing chocolate goodies in Vegas this past weekend! But more on that later…
I am amazed by those who create their own recipes. I do not have the ability or confidence (clearly) to even try. I’m also a big fan of allrecipes.com and even use their dinner spinner app for more variety.
I have not heard of the dinner spinner app… I will have to check it out. Continuing in this discussion that is not chocolate related- does anyone have ideas for quick healthy dinners? I need like 30 to rotate through out the month. We like variety at our house… Have a good day!
My blog is all about cooking and recipe development but I still need work in the baking department. I just tried to make pumpkin souffle, they looked beautiful until I took them out of the oven, a few minutes later then had deflated and the flavor was very bland. I’ll have to try again!! I think your cookies look delicious!
I really don’t mind the recipe development process, except for the dirty dishes.
Thanks for sharing your story!
Creating a recipe for baking is hard.
Creating recipes for cooking in general is much easier.
Baking is very much chemistry dependent so having the exact amount of the proper ingredients is essential in most cases for the finished product to have not just the taste, but also the texture you desire.
Cooking I make up frequently.
Baking I follow recipes from the masters and make changes.
Hi Gina! I am so excited to see another Gina! Okay, it does not happen that often, so I get a little excited. Anyway, agreed. But I still have this inner desire to be good at everything. One day.

Humm, I have some ideas. Let me put something together so I can share some cool easy chocolate delicacies with you. This will be fun.
. BTW: it so much fun meeting you at the BBC. I can’t wait to read about your Vegas adventures.
))
Are you a baker? I know the guidelines of the process, but nothing about the science and ratios. I would love any tips. Waiting for your Vegas post as well…
I have to admit, I am not the best baker. Plus, I just can’t have the calories, but I love, love to see the food and read the recipes!
I just love good food and good food that is healthy with less calories- even better. Thanks for coming by!
