I’ve literally been Moonstruck and you’ve seriously got to try this out and see what you think. Wow!
This week’s fantastic little selection is from Moonstruck Chocolates of Oregon. Yes, I just called it little, but that is a mistake because this bar is fantastically big in taste. We tried the Dark Chocolate Chile Variado which is 68% cacao.
First I have to give you Chocolate Dad’s opinion (self proclaimed chocolate loather). His first word on the taste notes were “Yum!”. He ended the taste notes with “Best bar I’ve experienced in a long time!”. Well Moonstruck, we have a winner, Chocolate Dad does like chocolate after all. Or maybe he just likes the pepper.
Taste Notes by Chocolate Mom (okay, me!):
The scent of this bar is your first hint of the experience you are about to have. Opening the bar reveals a wonderfully crafted piece of delight. I loved the Moonstruck logo right in the middle of the bar. The chocolate is a darker brown and a sign of the intensity that awaits you. The bar is smooth and dull in appearance. By this point you are almost certainly aware of the spicy aroma after having peeled back the wrapper.
Without delay, sample it! After all, chocolate should melt in your mouth, not in the wrapper. There is a short period of sweet, yet smoky chocolate. This wonderfully smooth chocolate taste is quickly complimented by a strong chili zing that grows stronger and lingers as the last punch to the piece of chocolate.
I loved my first experience with Moonstruck. I have a feeling that many of their flavors are going to be just as intense and I am anxious to try more. My only preference is that I thought the pepper drowned out the chocolate in the end… and I would have preferred more of a balance. As mentioned though, my husband loved it. The choice is yours, but I will advise you this is one of the spiciest bars I have tasted.
