Growing up my sister and I had a code that we used when we needed to talk. I use the word code loosely because it was probably a fairly universal term for most women. When one of us needed to talk we would tell the other that we needed to go for a frosty run. A frosty, if you are not aware is a chocolate flavored ice cream treat from a local fast food restaurant.
Today we still have these conversations on occasion. Although the conversation likely does not occur over a frosty anymore, it still means the same thing.
Anyway, I thought up 2 possible meanings for our “frosty runs”.
1- Superficial
The first meaning is very apparent on the surface. It basically implies that most of us turn to chocolate in a time of emotional duress and need. It implies some type of emotional improvement after eating chocolate.
2- Friendship
A true friend is one that goes beyond the silly questions. A true friend is one that takes the time, the emotion and the effort to understand you- the person.
I know that I have been fairly busy lately. I know that I have likely been brief with people in my life, especially my husband. I do want to reaffirm a desire in my life to be the friend that understands. I want to be the friend that takes time to help someone in need and go out on a frosty run.
What are your thoughts? I am also especially interested if any of you share a similar ‘code’ for a frosty run!

Sadly, I didn’t have sister. My brothers were not into a big sister so there you have it. However, what you’re really referring to is taking time our for friends and friendships. Friends and family are the glue in our lives and it would a very sad place if they weren’t there to share the “chocolate” pleasures of living
True! And it does not even have to be chocolate! As I mentioned, the term frosty run has just stuck… no matter what we do. You only have brothers? I bet that was fun!
Look who’s talking… LOL. You are one very busy person. You give way to much credit.
I am currently not working. I am just writing from my past experience.
BTW: I so happy others have found you and now know how great you and this blog is.
I know… it actually kind of got to me this week. But that is okay, it is a chance to take a break, regroup and change strategies. I still wish there were more hours in a day though.
Well, I for one am still a chocolate friend. I turn more to raw chocolate now but it’s still (if not moreso because the theobromine is way more powerful when the chocolate is raw!) really soothing!
Agreed… but it takes some good raw chocolate to get me interested. You should check out The Chocolate Conspiracy. He is a local guy here for us. His chocolate is amazing! He just came out with a blackberry flavor. Yuminess!
You’re talking my language when you’re talking chocolate! That’s all I dream about over at diversionswithdoreen. I’ll have to look up the Chocolate Conspiracy!
Stay tuned, I just obtained some yuminess to share from them. How did you get into chocolate? I think it would be fun to hear your story… Thanks for coming by!
WOO!! HOO!! Two of my favorite chocolate loving friends are now connected.
As they should be. I have lots of experiences involving friends and chocolate. Have a good weekend!
That is so cute. I remember my sister and I being up in the middle of the night and sitting at the table having hot chocolates. We would talk for hours
I have wine friends now
Guess I never got past the chocolate stage!
Oh well. Thanks for coming by!
Well, as a Frosty addict, I do have a lot of literal Frosty runs haha. But, thankfully, I’ve stopped turning to them (or any sweets) out of emotions.
Since getting sick, I’ve really lost touch with my ‘friends’. Although I still think I am that friend they could turn to in a time of need, I am much more selective these days about who my friends are.
I am sorry you have been sick! Not fun. Hopefully you will be better soon? You are right about not turning to sweets because of emotions. I hope things get better soon! THanks for coming by!
I love this topic! I completely understand what you’re saying when talk about sweet, superficial friends vs friends who are the real deal, and in our busy worlds, we often don’t take sufficient time to really cherish them.
We had a fascinating discussion on “what is a friend?” on my lifestyle blog over at doreenpendgracs.com. Be sure to read the comments that followed the post as they were most insightful. You can still add one of your own as I never close off comments to posts as many of them are timeless. Here’s to the importance of friendship!
I think you saw… I had already stopped by your blog What a coincidence that we both addressed it so close to each other! Chocolate minds think alike!
