So the chocolate bar that we know and love is a long way off from its origins. The cacao pod is plucked from the tree, cracked open and the inside mass removed for fermentation and other processing for chocolate. Did you ever wonder what happens to the cacao pod?

Here are surprising uses for the cacao pod and other ways to recycle with chocolate.
1- Combustion of the cacao pod shells is used to produce heat and energy.
2- Cacao pod ashes are used for fertilizer on the cacao farms, but is suitable for other farms.
But wait! There is more! There are a few things you can do to recycle in the chocolate world!
1- Try to recycle your chocolate packaging, most likely it is possible.
2- Make a craft! Here are some ideas.
Okay, so the reason for this post is that I was pretty stoked to see how they recycle the cacao pods. However, I do have an idea for a chocolate tin… Stay tuned!

That was very interesting. I had not really thought about what happened to the hulls etc. it is good to know that they find a good use for the leavings. It is also a good reminder about how we can do our part as well. I can’t wait to the tin you make.
Stay tuned for the tin! Anyway, thanks for coming by today. Have you recovered from jet lag?
It always seemed to take me forever.
Wow. I knew I loved chocolate beyond reason, but I had not idea it could actually help our planet as well. Chocolate is just the best in so many ways, especially milk chocolate almond bark.
Yum. I could go for that one too. Thanks for coming by today, hope to see you again soon!
