You know what I love about bread? You can do a bunch of things with it. I would say that you can do a million things with bread, which you probably can, but I don’t want to lie to you and I am too lazy to count that high.
Anyway, I was surprised when I made these that my husband commented I had never made them for him before. I couldn’t believe it had been that long since I had made these. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that my husband doesn’t like bread- perhaps?
I’m sure you’ve heard of sweet rolls, but what about breakfast rolls? Someone has probably invented them before, but here’s my version.
Make a basic bread dough recipe. To use mine you can find it here.
Once you have the dough, roll it out on the counter until it’s about 1/4 inch thick. Try to roll it in a square shape, but if you’re not able to because you’re a inept at rolling like me (you should see my tortilla’s) don’t worry about it, you’ll never be able to tell.
Place your toppings on the bread dough. Possible toppings include: diced potatoes, cheese, ham, bacon, green peppers, salt, pepper, onion and mushrooms. I precook items such as bacon, potatoes and onions. It just depends on what you want.
Roll the bread dough starting at one end. Roll up the toppings into the dough. Watch how much you pull on the bread dough while rolling. With chunkier toppings it is easier to tear it. Once you are done rolling the dough, pinch the end of the dough into the dough roll to seal it.
Once you have a large roll, slice the roll about every inch to make several small rolls. Place rolls onto greased baking sheet and bake until brown on top. For our particular recipe it was about 15 min at 350 degrees.
Enjoy! We also freeze them to thaw quickly for a good breakfast in a pinch.
Have a good day!
